Jason Shelton is a life-long resident of Tupelo, Mississippi. His roots in Tupelo and the surrounding area stretch back more than seven generations.
Growing up in Tupelo from the late 1970’s through the early 1990’s, Jason Shelton spent his formative years in a city where the “Tupelo Spirit” could overcome any challenge. He grew up in a city where the public schools were the shining example of the state; where students and business leaders and sports teams were constantly recognized statewide and nationally for their achievements; where leaders from around the world traveled here to study Tupelo’s unique brand of civic cooperation, can-do attitude, and innovation; a city where anything seemed possible. Jason Shelton grew up in a truly All-American City, and that passion and energy rubbed off on him.
A product of the Tupelo Public School System, Jason graduated from Tupelo High School in 1994. He then proceeded to Mississippi State University as a recipient of the prestigious John C. Stennis Scholarship in Political Science. While enrolled at Mississippi State, he pursued his academics at an ambitious pace, taking summer classes at Itawamba Community College, and ultimately graduating Magna Cum Laude from Mississippi State in two and a half years. After working for a semester in his father’s law firm, he enrolled in the University of Mississippi’s School of Law.
Jason tackled law school at Ole Miss with the same enthusiasm he had as a Stennis Scholar. He graduated law school in 1999, becoming the youngest practicing attorney in the State of Mississippi at that time.
With a world of opportunity in front of him, Jason returned to Tupelo and settled into his professional career here in the All-American City. When asked why he came back to Tupelo out of all the places he could go, Jason simply responded, “Because Tupelo is my home.”
For the past 13 years, Jason Shelton has been an attorney managing one of the most prominent law firms in this region. In addition to a robust general practice, Jason has also spent the last decade actively engaged in municipal law issues.
From his time playing pee-wee football in East Tupelo as a child, to his service the last four years on the Tupelo Quality of Life Committee, Jason Shelton has spent a lifetime engaged in Tupelo civic, cultural, and charitable life at almost every level.
The spirit of the Tupelo where he grew up is deeply instilled in Jason. That is why he is passionate about Tupelo and ready to bring the next round of energetic leadership to City Hall.
